Language Beyond is for adults who are learning a language because they have somewhere to be: a move abroad, a new job, a partner's family, or a trip that matters. Apps are a fine way to start. This site is about what comes after the streak counter, when you need to understand people who talk fast and answer them out loud.
What you will find here
- Methods: shadowing, spaced repetition, comprehensible input, language exchanges and other techniques, with routines that fit around work and family.
- Languages: guides for Portuguese, English, Spanish and French, covering pronunciation, the grammar that comes up in real conversations, and culture notes.
- Phrasebooks: phrases for real situations, from the airport to the rental viewing, with pronunciation you can actually say and the polite version.
- Resources: reviews of the courses, tutors, podcasts, apps and books that adult learners spend money and time on.
How we write
Every phrase comes with a pronunciation guide and a note on where it is used, because the same language sounds different in Rio and Lisbon, Mexico City and Madrid, Paris and Montreal. We say which regional variety a phrase belongs to, and we keep explanations short enough to read on your phone in a queue.
If a page ever includes affiliate links, it will say so clearly at the top.
